Throughout this semester, I believe that the readings and visuals connected via various black history moments. They were specifically referring to their culture, customs, and traditions. I.e. Belize and Cuba have rich histories and cultures influenced by their African heritage. The most similar customs include the practice of carnival, which is a celebration of their emancipation.  Similar throughout other West Indies islands other than Cuba. Learning various details about slavery, especially from the film “Sankofa” has me reflecting and questioning some topics within my beliefs.

Religion and spirituality are unique when it comes to Africans. I feel that we are in the middle of what our ancestors experienced and what the new world provided. Such a mix of both that sometimes we have peel the layers back to find the true roots. The impact can be felt all over the word causing a special infusion that only the creator could comprehend. I do not try to play God, nor do I box the entity in. Learning so much over the years has helped me rest easy in my spirituality.
